NEWS FROM MAMELODI - TSHWANE

Pastor Abel Zuma - Satelite Coordinator

This satellite started in 2002 with Pastor Abel Zuma who was a Postmaster at the time. He had a passion to see Mamelodi reached for Christ. Careful research was done and GIS maps were created to determine how many churches are still needed and where they should be planted.

Pastor Abel planted a church which is no longer in a tent but a brick structure with about 400 people attending. During the last 5 years another 50 churches were planted, using, 4 tents. There are now an estimated 1,200 new disciples!

Pastor, Abel says, "If we could get another 5 tents we could plant another 20 churches within the next 12 months because we have momentum now as well as trained church planters and evangelists."

Research map of MamelodiThe current estimated population of Mamelodi is 1 million. The evangelical church is only 1.4% of the population.

The research determined that Mamelodi needs another 630 churches just to be able to plant 1 church for every 1000 unreached people.

Pastor Sam Mobeng - Church Planter in Mamelodi

Pastor Sam planted a church in Mamelodi six weeks ago. He already has 70 people in his church! One of the strategies he uses is to preach the gospel on the train. The people he leads to Christ he invites to his church and then disciples them.

BUSINESSMEN EMPOWERING CHURCH PLANTERS

Recently a number of key businessmen form Gauteng and the Wilderness area met together at the Hole in the Wall Hotel near Coffee Bay. It was a time of connecting, learning and networking. During this time there was a lot of fun with quad bikes, fishing and 4x4. In the evening Pastor Kola de Klerk from Knysna shared with the men on how to spice up their marriages. On the last night Louis Blom, CEO of Judea Harvest shared about the work of Judea. The businessmen were so touched that they immediately took up an offering to purchase an evangelism tent for the Wilderness area. Some businessmen made private commitments to give to the church planting vision of Judea Harvest.

The big question was, "When are we doing this again?"
