It is a cool Saturday morning in the informal settlement on the fringes of Cape Town city. The area is called the Cape Flats and the poorest of the poor live here in terrible conditions. Inside the Judea Harvest evangelism tent it is much warmer with the chatter of children that are filling the tent. Moms and dads are now also coming in to observe this special outreach to the children. You can sense the excitement in the air.
This is part of the outreach of the “Hit-Squad for Jesus”, a team of ex-gangsters that have had committed their lives to Jesus some years ago. They are well known in the area where they created havoc for years. Now they are creating havoc for Satan who has ruled there for so long. People stream to the crusades to hear the “Good News” that has changed the lives of evil men into loving caring men.
| Lively music now fills the air with songs of worship. Everyone is participating singing and dancing with joy while the new-comers are observing this new found joy. I am standing there wiping tears away as I see these children worshipping Jesus with such freedom.
The worship leader now introduces Pastor Edwin as the speaker for the morning. Pastor Edwin is sharing his testimony this morning. I sat there riveted as he tells his story. Once again I start wiping the tears away as he tells the story of how he was recruited as a teenager to join the gang of a very well gang leader in Cape Town. In order to qualify he had to kill someone. |

Pastor Edwin
|
He tell the story of his time in jail and then how eventually he was left for dead when a gangster emptied his pistol on him. Riddled with bullet holes, the doctor also just did the necessary and told the nursing staff to keep him comfortable since he will not make it. But Jesus had an appointment with him. Miraculously he escaped death and found the saviour of his soul.
Hit-Squad for Jesus has two evangelism tents that are running every night of the week. They have a vision to acquire 10 more tents. This short story does not do justice to understand the dire need of this violent, impoverished community. Do yourself a favour and read this article - http://www.iss.co.za/Pubs/Papers/74/Paper74.html
You can assist them in changing the history of the Cape Flats. To make a financial contribution toward the purchasing of more evangelism tents you can contact Fanie Smuts at faniesmuts@mweb.co.za

ANGOLA, RISING FROM THE ASHES
What a privilege to stand on Angolan soil with the mission to empower God’s servants to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Last time I ventured into Angola was in an amour-plated vehicle with the instruction to search and destroy the enemy. At that stage we were blinded by the apartheid ideology and we did not realize that our enemy is not flesh and blood but the prince of darkness and his demonic forces. What a surprise to find a well organized church in Lubango and surrounding villages, even though they went through more than 20 years of war. About 80 pastors sat through a four day training seminar held by AFMIN and Judea Harvest. Judea also had the privilege to dedicate 7 evangelism tents and launch them as church planting vehicles into the harvest field. We are honored to be a part of God’s plan to expand and grow His church in Angola as the country arises from the dust of devastating war.
